Tallon, Martin Named Legislators of the Year
Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association honored two members of the South Carolina’s General Assembly this week during the 2014 Winter Conference. Senator Larry Martin of Pickens and Representative Eddie Tallon of Spartanburg were both named the 2013 Legislator of the Year by the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association. This distinction was announced at the Association’s annual Medal of Valor Award’s Ceremony, which was held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Bush River Road in Columbia.
Sheriff’s Association Executive Director, Jeff Moore, stated, “Both of these gentlemen provided outstanding leadership on multiple issues for the sheriffs of our state last year.” Moore went on to say, “Perhaps no issue was more important for the sheriffs in the 2013 legislative year than the patrol canine legislation that was passed and signed into law June of last year. I firmly believe that legislation would not be law today if it were not for the dedicated service and outstanding leadership of these two individuals.” Director Moore continued by saying, “The State House can be a very frustrating place to work at times, but having friends like Senator Martin and Representative Tallon make the journey a little easier to manage. They understand the needs of the Sheriffs and are always willing to help whenever possible.”
SC Sheriffs’ Association President, Sheriff Steve Loftis of Greenville County said, “I want everyone to know that this is not an annual award that simply must go to someone. No, this is an award that is only bestowed upon those individuals who truly rise above their peers and make a way when one simply does not seem to exist.” Sheriff Loftis went on to thank the two legislators for their efforts and concluded his remarks by saying, “The people of this great state are safer now because of your unrelenting determination.”
