SCDOT has tripled its road and bridge program to an unprecedented $3 billion level.
Over $440 million of this increase in road and bridge projects is directly attributable to the gas tax increase that was enacted last year.
The new funding is being targeted to key priorities such as paving projects, rural road safety projects, bridge replacement projects and interstate widening projects all across the state.
SCDOT selects projects through an analytical, not political, process.
Contractors are not paid for work until is it done and passes inspection in order to protect the taxpayer.
